What To Expect On Your First Day Of Virtual Dance Class!

Updated: Jan 9, 2021

A first day of anything can be nerve-racking, but here are some FAQs & info to make the experience as smooth & fun as possible!

Welcome to your first day of CIM virtual classes!

If your are reading this then your first day of classes is coming up! How exciting! In general, I take a more casual & comfortable approach to dance class. I believe you can have fun and work hard and if dance isn't fun then part of the magic is missing. Don't get me wrong, its not all fun and games, we are working on building our skills and technique. As we get closer to recitals and performances I'll have more of a game face. ;)

What Should I Wear?

-Anything comfortable! Leggings, joggers, t-shirts- anything you can move in without restriction. NO JEANS!

- Have hair styled away from your face such as in a ponytail, bun, braids or pinned back with a headband. We don't want your hair getting in your face and being a distraction.

-Typically we dance barefoot, this allows you to flex and point your feet if need be and allows more control over your footwork. I recommend no shoes or socks when dancing, unless you are dancing outside. You will take them off when you enter the studio ( I hope we can be in the studio soon!).

- Jewelry: Nothing dangly or something that can easily get caught in your hair, clothes or hands.

We don't have a uniform for dance classes, but your clothes should not restrict your ability to dance. A sometimes we have CIM pop-up shops where you may purchase apparel and other merchandise that you may wear to class or just when you feel like showing your CIM pride!

What Should I Bring?

- H2O! Have a water bottle available! Staying hydrated is super important and having water readily available means you don't have to leave your screen for too long and miss anything!

- Make sure you are dancing in an open space. We don't want you to injure yourself by dancing into furniture or walls! Make sure your whole body can be seen in the frame.

- Medication/Aides: Have your inhaler, glasses, hearing aides, etc. close by for easy access when needed.

-Internet Connection: make sure you are in an area that has a strong internet signal. Music may go in & out or the screen may freeze if you have a weaker signal. If that is to happen during class- no worries! Keep dancing!

What Do We Do In Class?

Dance! Class itinerary may vary from time to time but in general will consist of:

1. Warm Up & Stretching

2. Choreography

3. Water/Game break

4. Technique & Choreography Review

5. Cool Down

Do We Have A Recital?

Typically we have an annual recital in June where we have one big recital with all of our students. We celebrate all of our students together! During this pandemic, things changed. We hand mini recitals with each class where only their families were in attendance & we had a videographer record all the dances so that dancers could share their dances with friends and family who were unable to attend the show. As of right now, we do not have a recital date, but I'm hoping for more information in April so that we can start planning our recital with the proper protocol. Recital is one of my favorite times of the dance year! I hope we can make those special memories together again this year!

How Do We Pay For Classes?

Typically we take cash, check or card. Right now we are only doing contactless payments via Zelle and Venmo. Fees are $60/month and due on the 1st of every month. You may also pay for classes per session. Monthly fees are due on the first of each month.

What If We Miss A Class?

Now I know all you will do is think about Bollywood dance 24/7 ;) but life happens and we may miss a class. I get it. We do not prorate fees for missed classes, but you are more than welcome to attend a corresponding class on a different day. Please let me know if you are missing class & I will let you know what class will be the best fit for a make-up.

What is the best way to stay up-to-date on class happenings?

I will email from time to time of pertinent information such as music, video clips or upcoming events but social media is the best way to stay as current as possible on what is happening inside of the studio. Instagram is the platform I tend to use the most, but we sprinkle CIM magic on multiple platforms! Below are all of our social media pages (I'm trying to be better at our CIM social presence so bare with me!):

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cultureinmotionllc/

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CultureInMotionLLC/

That's all I have for now, but if you have any questions feel free to contact me!

Can't wait to dance with you!
